What happened to the Hamelin children after they were whisked away by the Pied Piper? Here, two of them offer their versions - Simon Pullitt in his whimsical way, writes his Chronicle of the Truth while Jessop, in plain-speaking no-nonsense way gives a far more elaborate account.

Two worlds, vastly different, exist side by side and it is only when the inhabitants of both become sexually aware and decide to come together that the problems really begin.

Without parents to guide them, who will provide their moral compass? Is their guardian, The Piper, up to the task or will someone else have to step up? Each of them has his or her own ideas about that!

Children of Hamelin an adult tale eBook THERESA DAWN SINCLAIR

We all remember something about the Pied Pier. About how he rid Hamelin of rats but then, when the city elders refused payment, how he led away all the town's children as well. The Children of Hamelin provides two first hand accounts of the event, and its aftermath, by children who were piped away. The first account, Simon's Chronicle of the Truth, is written in lyrical, poetic language that paints vivid pictures. The writing is so descriptive that you feel that you are in Hamelin physically, and that you feel that you are in the mind of Simon. The description of the Pied Piper's music is intoxicating and may cause you to follow the Piper away to the magical land created by the author. But beware, things may not be as they seem. At one point Simon laments "who could have predicted that Paradise would not suffice us for the rest of our lives?" For the magical land to which the Piper leads the children may indeed be Paradise found, then Paradise lost... The second account, simply titled Jessop's Tale, paints a much different picture than the idyll related by Simon. Jessop's story is written in guttural language, is full of rutting, and examines the dark underside of both the Piper and the Reverie to which he led the children. Jessop has memorable interludes with Marigold and Cressida. Be prepared for extremely steamy interactions between Jessop and Melinda! The author has supremely executed a fascinating premise, telling the story of the Pied Piper from the point of view of the children. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

Children of Hamelin an adult tale eBook THERESA DAWN SINCLAIR Reviews

Purchased this book for my husband, a musician who's original songs include several with lyrics by this author. Here's what he had to say...

Very impressive for a first book! It held my attention throughout with a very interesting cast of characters; including some well-rounded protagonists, I especially appreciated what you did with Jessop. Chatting with Amy last night I guessed that you must have grown up with brothers, as your understanding of the male psyche is almost spooky at times! Comparisons with some of my favorite books frequently came to mind, "Lord of the Flies", "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn", "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Gulliver's Travels" to name a few. Plot development was very good, I was continually musing about what the future held in the next page, given just enough information to keep me wanting more! I'd caution parents to be careful about choosing this for a child, thinking it might be an innocent take on a fable we all know from childhood, wouldn't want them growing up too fast! But would highly recommend for any reader past puberty, including some of us way, way past; in summary it was a most intelligent, enjoyable read and I'll be recommending it to my friends. I look forward to reading your next one!
Ever wonder what happened to the children of Hamelin after the Pied Piper took them? Well, he did not pipe them into the river with the rats. No, he was a practical Piper. The first thing he did was to separate the boys from the girls. He led the boys to an all male paradise where they were free from the constraints of shoes, clothes and supervision. Sustenance abounded for the taking. The girls were securely ensconced in a palace filled with feminine opulence where they quickly established a rule of order, the telling of which could be aptly titled "Lord of the She Flies".
Of course, the separation of the genders could not survive the onset of puberty. With reservations the Piper succumbs to the ostensible entreaties from both sides to be reunited with their siblings.
Theresa Dawn Sinclair skillfully tells this story of the eternal incompatibility of the sexes with the separate accounts of two participants Simon, who is closest to the Piper and Jessop who mistrusts him. When the two groups are reunited on female turf the resultant conflicts are inevitable and chilling.
Children of Hamelin is a fascinating "what if" story filled with human conflict and frailty after the veneer of control is stripped. And the Piper? What manner of being is he?
I loved it, and anyone who enjoys thought provoking tales certainly will as well.
An intriguing take on a fairy tale. I've often wondered things like, what really happened in the happily ever after of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. But that's a good question. What did happen to the children of Hamelin. They went off with the Pied Piper, but where to and what then. This is a delightfully salacious excursion from the somewhat twisted mind of Sinclair who weaves words together in a way that makes me feel like I never got past 8th grade English. In other words she puts my vocabulary to shame, and uses one word when I need twenty to say the same thing. I love that about her writing, and I also love the dark corners of the imagination she wickedly gets me to explore. I recommend this read, but not for kids. As with The Eternal Question, another marvelously written book, she takes my mind to places I'm not sure it wants to go, but I follow her there because the paints the word pictures so vividly and conjures up emotions I didn't know I had. What a gifted writer. Take your time with her work, don't try to skim through it, you will miss the nuances. Take full advantage of this escape into another world.
